Today is the halfway point of The Rib and me drinking our way through February 2012. It couldn’t come at a better time. This is way harder than it seems, being that I am not Nicolas Cage playing in a movie opposite a 2nd tier “Brat Packer.” The Garage Bar at CorkEnvy was really hopping tonight, so this wine may or may not have received the attention it deserved. But we must press on…
2009 Francis Ford Coppola Pinot Noir Votre Sante, Sonoma County, California
On the nose, I got a lot of strawberry, some cream, and some subtle floral (mostly rose) notes.
The palate brought the strawberry in a big way. This wine reminded me of a strawberries and cream Lifesaver. There was the slightest alcohol burn, but to be fair, I didn’t give this bottle the time it may have required to open up. We paired it with…wait for it…ham sandwiches, being that I am the consummate host and had a few people from the neighborhood show up for a ‘happy hour’ that became several happy hours—such are the duties of the “unofficial mayor” of the subdivision.
This is a light, easy drinker at $14. It might be a good red for those who swear off the big reds. I would be more than happy to pop this one again as the weather gets warmer, especially if I am presented with an “offer I can’t refuse.”
Cheers from the Corkpit,
