2008 A to Z Wineworks Chardonnay, Oregon
On the nose, the A to Z had some lemongrass and tropical fruit.
The palate brought some pineapple/sour apple and a very light toastiness. There was the slightest hint of butter early on, but it went away fairly quickly as the wine warmed a bit. Tropical fruit notes remained throughout the bottle. The acid on this one was o.k., but I’m not sure if it would hold up very well to any substantial food offering. The A to Z had a medium finish and was fairly crisp.
I wasn’t bowled over by this one, but it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever tasted in the $17 range. It drinks easily and might be good with some creamier cheese late on a Saturday afternoon after finishing your lawn work (or during if you’re not using power equipment or sharp tools!). This is not a big, buttery Chardonnay. The A to Z doesn’t give you too much to think about, so it’s not a bad choice if you just want a fairly light, crisp, easy drinker.
Cheers from the Corkpit,
